Brief Bio and Research Interest / Area of Research:

Ms. Asma Bashir is working at SZABIST as a Lecturer, Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Life Sciences. She has completed her Bachelors (Microbiology) and Masters (Microbiology) from Department of Microbiology, University of Karachi. She later completed her MS Biosciences (SZABIST) and currently enrolled in PhD Biosciences in the department of Bioscience, Faculty of Life Sciences, SZABIST.

She has published more than 15 research articles in reputed journals. She served a couple of years as a Research Scholar in a very reputed and well-equipped laboratory; Immunology and Infectious Disease Research Laboratory (IIDRL), Department of Microbiology, University of Karachi, where she got a chance to carry out a number of projects in the area of Immunology and Diagnostics of infectious diseases. She has presented her research piece of work at various National and International forums like Pakistan, USA, UK, Spain, Ireland, Miami-USA, Malaysia, etc. Apart from microbiological aspects, one of her specialty is the development of Biosafety concepts in Microbiology research laboratory and for this she got a special training in Biosafety and Biosecurity from Bangkok, Thailand.

She has also earned a number of professional memberships of National and International repute in Medical, Microbiology and other Allied Health care societies including; Pakistan Society of Microbiology (PSM), Biosafety Association of Pakistan (BSAP), American Biosafety Association, American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Infection Control Society of Pakistan (ICS) and European Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID). She has organized a number of National conferences, workshops and seminars and also participated in them as a resource person and trainer.

Research Interests: Microbiology, Medical Microbiology, Antibiotic Resistance, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Antimicrobial substances, Probiotics, Bacteriocins.
