SZABIST Karachi Campus, organized an International Conference on Interdisciplinary research in Management, Education and Social Sciences on 18th & 19th January, 2020 at Regent Plaza Hotel & Convention Center. Revolving around the theme of “New Horizons for data driven world: Challenges, Initiatives and Opportunities” the conference showcased current research and critical discourse on the importance and demand for digitalization and data management, with more than 300 Research papers from scholars around the world.
The Conference kicked off on Saturday, 18th January with the opening ceremony inaugurated by Conference patron Dr. Altaf Mukati and the President SZABIST Shahnaz Wazir Ali. Dr. Mukati welcomed all the guests including the keynote speakers who had joined from various international reputed Universities. The Chief Guest of the ceremony Provincial Minister of Sindh for Health and Population Welfare and Chancellor (SZABIST) Dr. Azra Fazal Pehchuo expressed her gratitude to the organizing committee in arranging the International Conference as it fulfills the vision of SZABIST founder, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Eminent scholar and Economist Prof. Dr. Raja Radish from University of Malaya spoke about the economic challenges and Industrial Revolution 4.0 and how should Pakistan respond to them. Another researcher Dr. Maria Dos Santose of Institute University of Lisbon, Portugal shed light on the opportunities and challenges to the world with respect to Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. Dean of Faculty of Management Sciences Dr. Amir Firoz Shamsi, presented vote or thanks to the distinguished guests and speakers.
Elaborating the theme with the corporate tracks and panel discussions, the conference provided a collaborative platform for policy makers from HEC, local industrialists and academicians to figure out the implications of digitalization in logistics and transport, applied linguistics, higher education , andragogy, academia -industry – government (Triple Helix Model) for sustainability through an interactive dialogue proposing possibilities for sustainable development in diverse business and economic environment of Pakistan.
The second day of the conference focused on corporate discussions pertaining to sustainable growth through project management, industry -academic linkage, financial inclusion and entrepreneurship. Additionally more than 300 scholars from different universities and walks of life across Pakistan were also given opportunity to present contemporary research ideas at the SZABIST International Conference 2020.
At the closing ceremony, Chief Guest, Syed Mazhar Ali Nasir – Former Senior Vice President FPCCI expressed his pleasure on arranging the conference on all important topic of Data Driven World. The conference chair Dr. Riaz Ahmed Sheikh wrapped up the event with an important message to the Government, Academia and Business owners to exert synergistic efforts for the development and prosperity of Pakistan.
“SZABIST Annual Biosciences Conference (ZAB CON’19) was held on 12th -13th November 2019. This year’s conference was based on three main themes “Biosciences, Biotechnology and Public Health”. The speakers presented their papers on a very diverse range of topics including “Biotransformation of Pharmaceuticals for Cost- Effective Wastewater Treatment”, “Evaluation of antibiotic susceptibility and heavy metal tolerance of soil pigmented bacteria”, “Comparison of Oral Health Status Among Normal and Disabled Children of Karachi, Pakistan.” and many more. Chief Guest of the occasion was Dr. Farhan Essa Abdullah, CEO of the Dr. Essa Laboratories. The event ended with shield and souvenir distribution.”
Management Sciences Department of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST), Karachi organized its Second National Research Conference on Management and Business (NRCMB) at SZABIST, Karachi, 90 Campus on November 24th and 25th, 2017. The opening day started from 09:00 am and concluded till 06:30 pm. The Chief Guest was Mr. Jahangir Siddiqui, Head of JS Group along with Mr. Naseer Memon, GM-CSR Engro Corporation and Mr. Javed Ali Memon, Director HEC-Regional Center Karachi as key note speakers. Other CEOs, Heads of National and Multinational Companies, Policymakers, Government Officials, Development Experts, Academicians, Researchers, Economists, Financial analysts, Personnel from NGOs, Human Resource Development Professionals, Trainers and PhD/ MPhil/ MS level Scholars were also part of the National Research Conference on Management and Business.
The theme of the conference was “Building Bridges between Industry and Academia”. It aimed at identifying issues and finding their solutions for the industry. It also emphasized on the liaison between corporate-industry and government-academia sectors. Therefore, the theme broadly covered the management of public, private, commercial and non-profit sectors of the economy through intervention of academia.
Dr. Altaf Mukati, Vice President (Academics) SZABIST said that the gap between the academia and industry would be fulfilled by many ways including (1) customized curriculum incorporating the requirements of the industry (2) projects initiated by the industry for academic research (3) projects proposed by the academia and industry will work on those projects. The second day of the 2nd National Research Conference on Management and Business started with great fanfare as parallel technical tracks of Finance, Marketing, Management and Education were held. Dr. Shujjat Mubarik, Dr. Sheeba Saeed, Dr. Tariq Jalees, Dr. Jamil Khilji and many illustrious research stalwarts chaired these sessions while research scholars presented their research studies.
The conference ended with an impressive closing ceremony held at the venue. The Head of the Management Sciences Department, Dr. Manzoor Ali Isran welcomed and thanked the honorable guests Mr. Wajid Hussain Junejo, Head of Procurement & Materials Management at Engro and Director of the board of German Pakistan Trade & Investment and Dr. Sheba Saeed, Faculty of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts at IBA, Karachi, for gracing the occasion.
