SZABIST University Shines with Multiple Wins at Inter-University Tournament

SZABIST shines once again at the 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗺 𝗛𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗯 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, bringing home 𝟲 𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘀 in Table Tennis (singles and doubles categories) and securing a spot in the 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶-𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀.

SZABIST University receives the prestigious ICGEB Grant

Ms Neha Farid (Senior Lecturer/FYP Coordinator and Alumni of Biosciences) was awarded the prestigious ICGEB grant to present her research on antimicrobial resistance in 7th Central European Symposium on Antimicrobials and Antimicrobial Resistance, CESAR 2025 held from 22 to 25 September 2025 in Zadar, Croatia. 𝑆ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑃𝑎𝑘𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛.

Baryal Aman Shines at AKU Rowing Regatta

SZABIST University Karachi proudly congratulates Baryal Aman Khan (BBA) for his remarkable achievement at the “AKU Rowing Regatta 2025“, winning 1 Gold Medal and 1 Bronze Medal.

This success, managed under the “Student Affairs Advisory Office” and the “SZABIST Sports Society”, reflects SZABIST’s continued commitment to nurturing student talent and promoting sports excellence alongside academics. Well done, Baryal!

SZABIST Faculty of Law  Wins Best Researcher Award at 17th Henry Dunant Moot Court Competition

We are delighted to share that Afifa Khalid, representing SZABIST Faculty of Law, has won the Best Researcher Award at the 17th Henry Dunant Moot Court Competition!

Competing among the top 12 teams, Afifa’s achievement is a testament to her dedication, talent, and excellence in legal research. A heartfelt thank you to the entire SZABIST Law Mooting team — Shaikh Ibrahim Bin Faisal, Makhdoom M. Abdullah Azan, and Afifa Khalid — for their hard work, teamwork, and commitment throughout this prestigious competition. Each of you has made us proud with your passion and representation.

SZABIST University wins Silver Category in UNESCO 2024 Future Designer International Innovation Design Awards and Science for SDGs Innovation Contest

SZABIST University is the only Pakistani university selected among 2000+ submissions from over 60 countries. A total of 50 projects were shortlisted, including 5 Gold, 8 Silver, 12 Bronze, and 25 Nomination Awards.
Dr. Uroosa Ejaz (Assistant Professor & Program Manager, Biotechnology), along with students Sami Qureshi, Ahsen Ibrahim, and Salman Haider (Biosciences & Biotechnology), participated in the 2024 Future Designer International Innovation Design Awards and Science for SDGs Innovation Contest (IIDA), under the umbrella of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (IDSSD).
Applicants from 24 countries received awards. Winning entries came from China, Pakistan, Ukraine, Turkey, Hungary, India, the Philippines, Egypt, and Brazil. The judging panel comprised nine experts from UNESCO’s six electoral groups, representing diverse fields including science, engineering, arts, communication, and indigenous knowledge.
Dr. Uroosa’s project, “Use of delignified sugarcane bagasse and bamboo for the synthesis of biodegradable sanitary pads,” ranked 7th globally and was awarded in the Silver category. The project focuses on developing biodegradable sanitary pads to address the environmental issues posed by conventional, non-biodegradable napkins.


Thesis films of SZABIST University Media Science alumni selected for Pakistan International Film Festival (PIFF) 2025

Aarab Khan, an aspiring cinematographer and filmmaker, served as the cinematographer for Indus Echoes—the first Sindhi feature film produced in 27 years. His latest short film, Lunch Break, explores themes of grief and innocence and has been officially selected for PIFF 2025.
Daniyal Shabbir, a filmmaker passionate about realism and emotional storytelling, created Maachi, a short film exploring identity and inner conflict, which has also been officially selected for PIFF 2025.


SZABIST University wins the CFA Research Challenge Pakistan Finals 2023-24

SZABIST University not only secured first place but also received the Best Presentation Award. SZABIST will represent Pakistan in the sub-regional round where we will compete with India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other countries. The CFA Research Challenge is recognized as one of the most prestigious competitions in the investment industry. Out of 39 teams from Pakistan that submitted financial models and equity reports, only six qualified for the final round. The final round was held on February 27, 2024 where all the finalists presented their reports in front of the investment industry experts. SZABIST University not only secured first place but also received the Best Presentation Award. We are proud of our students Agam Kumar (BS Accounting & Finance Student 8th Semester), Minahil Mirza (BBA Student 8th Semester), Humera Zubair (BBA Student 8th Semester), Mohammad Mehdi Bhojani (BS Accounting & Finance Student 8th Semester). A big shout-out to the Industry Mentors Hassan Javed, Mr. Nazim Abdul Muttalib and Faculty Advisor of the team, Sumaira Shahid for their valuable contribution. 


SZABIST University wins National Idea Bank III 2024

Mr. Hasan Anees and Shahrayar Khan Students of Mechatronics Department win National Idea Bank III 2024. The National Level competition was held on February 15, 2024 at Aiwan –e- Saddar, Islamabad. Your victory in this competition not only reflects your own brilliance but also underscores your remarkable ability to inspire and empower others to unleash full potential. We are also extended our congratulations to Ms. Nasreen Bano the FYP Supervisor and Dr. Faraz Junejo the Head of Mechatronics Department since this remarkable accomplishment is a testament to their unwavering dedication, exceptional mentorship, and profound insight.


Ghaznooq-un-Nisa, student of BS Biotechnology presents her research at the prestigious Asia Youth Summit Conference 2024

SZABIST University proudly highlights the achievements of our student, Ghaznooq-un-Nisa, student of 8th semester of BS Biotechnology. She was the only delegate from Pakistan to present her research at the prestigious Asia Youth Summit Conference 2024, organized by Global Youth Ambassador Forum in Universiti Malaya from 19th to 22nd February, 2024. Ghaznooq’s innovative project ‘Green synthesis of manganese nanoparticles and it’s potential as a nanofertilizer’, addressing the climate change challenges in agriculture, received praise and recognition. She was also elected as the head of the Climate Action group. She has conducted her final year project under the supervision of Dr. Hammad Afzal Kayani, Associate Professor at Department of Biosciences.


SZABIST Won the National Amateur Short Film Award

Congratulation to Huzaifa Ahmed Student of our Media Sciences Department for winning  the 7th position in a film competition held by ISPR at the National Amateur Short Film Festival held on  26th June 2021. His film titled “Kaptan” was selected in the category of Philanthropy in Pakistan covering Imran Khan’s life struggles and the creation of Shaukat Khanam hospital. He has also been awarded scholarship for one year in film course at the University of California (UCLA).


Our BE Mechatronics Students’ FYP titled “Smart Assistant” a stick designed to assist visually impaired people has won National Idea Bank (NIB) competition in the Healthcare Stream. Supervised by our faculty Engr. Atif Saeed, team leader Farooq Ahmed received the award from the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi at SSUET.

The Smart Assistant is a smart stick designed for visually impaired people that utilizes sensor fusion approach to help them avoid obstacles and water on floor. It also have an feature to send an alert to their guardians with their current location via text message in an hour of need on a click of a button. The stick’s circuitry is powered by flexible solar cells, contributing towards a sustainable and green future.


Table Tennis 

SZABIST Sports Society hosted HEC Zone L Table Tennis (Men) Championship on 29th October, 2022 at Islamia Club. Out of 6 participating teams from Zone L,  SZABIST was the runner-up of the event while Iqra university won the title.


Volley Ball

SSC is so proud to announce that SZABIST’s VOLLEY BALL team has won HECS inter-varsity Zonal volleyball competition.

SZABIST Volleyball (Men) Team won the HEC Zone L Volleyball Championship (Men) on 29th Dec 2022, being organized by SMIU. Our volleyball team, being the zonal champion, qualified to participate in the HEC National Volleyball competition being held in Peshawar.


BS Entrepreneurship students win first prize

SZABIST BS Entrepreneurship students win first prize at Business Plan Competition held at Millennium Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship MiTE Pakistan.


SZABIST Mooting team for winning the LGS National Moot Court Competition.

“Congratulations to the SZABIST Mooting team for winning the LGS National Moot Court Competition!! The team comprising of Kinza Konain, Aleena Shahid and Dua Ali worked tirelessly and performed exceptionally well, winning not only the competition but also the best speaker award (Kinza Konain)!”

SZABIST Won ‘Best Paper Award’ at GLOCER’21 – Organized by University of Florida (USA)

Congratulations, Ms. Faiza Siddiqui (Faculty of Management Sciences, SZABIST, Karachi)
Ms. Faiza Siddiqui (co-author) presented Research Paper at Global Conference on Education and Research (GLOCER) (June 8-10, 2021).
She won the Best Paper Award titled “Students’ Online Learning Experience during Covid-19: Integrating Behavioral and Technological Factors” with Mr. Mubashir Ali Khan, Muhammad Rahies & Yasir Rasool.


SZABIST Won Best Paper Award at 9th Asian Management Research and Case (AMRC) Conference

Ms. Ayesha Latif Shaikh presented her Research paper at 9th Asian Management Research and Case (AMRC) Conference organized by LUMS and UAE University. She won the Best Paper Award (student) and Prize Money. “Influence of Negative Public Religious Sentiments on Brand Management – An Exploratory Study” was part of her PhD Independent Study supervised by Dr. Kamran Ahmed Soomro.


Winning Team of the CFA Ethics Challenge – Pakistan Final 2020

Many congratulations to the Winning Team of the CFA Ethics Challenge – Pakistan Final 2020 – Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology – SZABIST (Karachi). The Winning Team Members are as follows:

Each participant of the winning team will get a cash price of Rs. 20,000. The regional final will be held in Malaysia and the winning team of SZABIST (Karachi) will be competing with the winning teams from all over the world. The regional final will be sponsored by the CFA Institute, United States. We extend our heartiest felicitations to the winners and wish them all the best for the Regional Finals.
The winning team of Szabist was under the supervision of Ms. Sobia Shakeel (Lecturer – Management Sciences) and Dr Imran Umer (Assistant Professor-Management Sciences). Also, it was not possible without the untiring efforts of Ms Wajeeha and Fahad Zuberi.


Research Paper Presentation at International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET-20), Bursa, Turkey

We are proud to share that two students of Mechatronics Engineering Department SZABIST, Minhaj Asif and Bisma Lateef Soomro successfully presented their Paper “Energy Loss in pipe for Industrial Application” at International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET-20), Bursa, Turkey. We would like to wish them all the best for their future.


Table Tennis Winner

Saim Adnan (captain table tennis team) secured 1st Position in the singles Table Tennis tournament at the NU-Fest KHI. Many congratulations to the champ!


Best Research Paper Award

“Dr. Waqar Akbar, Assistant Professor Faculty of Management Science, participated in ‘5th Asia International Conference (AIC-19)’ organized by Connecting ASIA – University technology Malaysia at KLCC, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 6 -8 Dec, 2019 and won two positions for Pakistan and SZABIST.
There were more than 250 papers presented from 17 countries and SZABIST Karachi won two Best Research Paper Awards. 1st position in future of Marketing and Management category for the paper “Understanding slow adoption of HR analytics from the lens of innovation diffusion theory” coauthored Ms. Shumaila Ejaz and Dr. Waqar Akbar with registration ID AIC-2019-FMM-558 and 2nd position in Advances in Managing Operations and Sustainability category for the paper “A Multilevel Examination of the Impact of Transactional Leadership and Organizational Environmental Policy Beliefs on Employee Green Behavior” coauthored Ms. Asna Usman and Dr. Waqar Akbar with registration ID AIC-2019-AMOS-559.
Further, we are pleased to inform that Dr. Waqar Akbar also conducted the training on “Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling Data Analysis using Mplus” in same conference on 6 Dec, 2019. The training was attended and highly appreciated by international participants. To conduct a training on such a big platform and stand with the most well-known trainers like Prof Ramayah and Dr. Imran Qureshi is really appreciating efforts by our faculty member.”


BBA 7E students, Mr. Asad Shah and Ms. Basrah Tariq along-with their group members won National Entrepreneurship Competition at IQRA University, Karachi.
