The Department of Public Health students were privileged to visit the District Health Office (DHO). This immersive field visit offered invaluable insights into the intricate structure and operations of district-level healthcare services.
During the visit, participants gained a deeper understanding of:
The organizational structure and critical roles played by DHOs in managing healthcare delivery.
The functionality of Health Management Information Systems (HMIS) at the district level, enables data-driven decision-making.
Service delivery across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, including the referral mechanisms that ensure continuity of care.
The responsibilities of healthcare providers and district administrators in addressing community health needs. The field visit also provided an opportunity to identify key challenges in district health management and engage in discussions on potential solutions to strengthen healthcare systems.
This enriching experience not only enhanced the participants’ theoretical knowledge but also emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in improving public health outcomes.
