SZABIST partnered with the British Council and Scottish Documentary Institute
SZABIST Media Sciences Department partnered with the British Council and Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) for Karachi Stories - Masterclass documentary workshop to support the documentary film culture in Pakistan. SDI and the British Council carry out the workshops in developing and emerging countries to support their filmmakers with the help of local partners, which in Pakistan's case was SZABIST Media Sciences Department. So far similar workshops have been held in Dhakka, Rabat, Ramallah, Tripoli and Benghazi. Karchi Stories is the 6th in this series.
The workshop started on September 5, 2014 and closed on September 12, 2014. Professor Noe Mendelle from SDI supervised and conducted the workshop. 15 participants were shortlisted after a long process of call for applications. First two days Professor Noe gave lectures on documentary film making and its practical and theoretical concerns particularly pertaining to its short form. During the masterclass, all students were divided into four groups. Each group produced a short documentary which was based under Karachi Stories theme under the close supervision and guidance of Professor Noe.
Last day of workshop was on financing and producing for international markets followed by a screening of the films produced. The workshop came to a close with President SZABIST Ms. Shahnaz Wazir Ali presenting a token of appreciation to participants and partners. Certificate were distributed among participants by President SZABIST Ms. Shahnaz Wazir Ali and Area Director Sindh and Balochistan British Council Barbara Wickham.
