Theatre Play "Main Jeoungi Sir Utha Kay" at SZABIST Karachi
Tehrik-e-Niswan, a Cultural Action Group, recently presented a theatre play titled, Main Jeoungi Sir Utha Kay" (I will live with my head held high), at SZABIST, Karachi.
The play was aimed to spread awareness about young girls suffering violence through early marriages, and unavailability of health facilities for women belonging to the rural areas and who are economically disadvantaged.
The play was presented in a lively traditional story telling technique, with songs and dances. It is created and directed by Ms.Sheema Kermani, a visiting faculty of SZABIST, for the sole purpose of raising awareness and promoting the slogan; 'Women's Rights are Human Rights'.
The event was attended by a large number of SZABIST students and faculty members, including Dr. Azra Fazal, Chancellor SZABIST. In her remarks Dr. Azra commended the performers and encouraged them to hold more such events to spread awareness about the women's health issues and generate support to seek remedies for detrimental social practices.
