SZABIST SCRC and Biosciences Department organized a Series of Seminars on “Advanced Bio-analytical Techniques in Omics”

Biosciences Department at SZABIST, organized a series of seminars on, “Advanced Bio-analytical Techniques in Omics”, on September 4, 2013. Speakers for the session were eminent scientist Dr. M. Kamran Azim Associate Professor at International Center for Chemical & Biological Sciences, University of Karachi, Mr. Furqan Kabir Senior Research Associate in Department of Paediatrics & Child Health (AKU), Dr. Kashif Ali Assistant Professor at Biosciences Department at SZABIST, and Dr. Uzma Nasib. Dr. Saqib Rizavi, President SZABIST, in his welcome address said that, “These scientific gatherings like today are considered imperative to create and enhance knowledge, share and exchange ideas, and strengthen the skills in order to advance and excel in the field of scientific research”.

He added that, “SZABIST has a long history of organizing such events and I hope that not only the students but also the faculty and the speakers will greatly benefit from today’s event”.. Followed by the welcome address Dr. Kasif Ali gave brief introduction about the establishment of Stem Cell Research Centre and Biosciences Department at SZABIST, and then he spoke about the metabolomics, its procedure and applications which can be used in gene identification, drug discovery and systems biology. Eminent scientist Dr. M. Kamran Azim educated the students of Biosciences about the elements of Bioinformatics and its application. Mr. Furqan Kabir shared his experiences and told the students about latest technology “TAQMAN ARRAY CARD ASSAY (TAC)”, which is now available in Pakistan. He said that this technology helps to diagnose many diseases and available only in AKU in whole Asia.

The last speaker for the session was Dr. Uzma and she spoke about the proteomics and its applications on plasma of CKD patients. Dr. Rizavi presented shields, as a token of appreciation, to all speakers and appreciated faculty and staff of Biosciences department who were involved in organizing this seminars series. The informative and interactive session concluded with question answer session and these seminars was attended by faculty, staff and students of Biosciences Department.
