SZABIST Holds its 19th National Research Conference (NRC)
SZABIST’s 19th National Research Conference (NRC) on Management Sciences, Computer Science and Social Sciences, was held on May 18, 2013, at SZABIST, Karachi. More than 78 research papers were presented by scholars from all over the country on various thematic issues.
Dr. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, Conference Chair and Head of Social Sciences Department at SZABIST, in his welcome speech stated, “Research should be linked with the process of development”.
According to Dr Amanat Ali Jalbani, Vice President Academics, “conferences, seminars, forums and debate competition are the regular activities of SZABIST, we publish two journals annually. He also added, “we will continue doing research in future being a responsible academia”.
The Chief Guest of the conference, Mr. Tasneem A. Siddiqui, Chairman, Orangi Pilot Project (OPP), said,” planners in Pakistan are not focusing on the social development rather their focus is towards the infrastructure, while. Basic things in social sector are lagging behind which includes primary education, health sector and rural development. Government of Pakistan should update the strategy for R&D and allocate more resources for the social development of the country”.
Mr. Arif Hasan, Chairman, Urban Resource Centre (URC) – in this keynote speech highlighted, , “Old social order is on decline now new social relations are emerging throughout the country. He added, “Green Revolution mechanization and migration of people have changed the socio-economic structure of Pakistan”.
Speaking at the concluding session Dr. Saqib Rizavi, President SZABIST, thanked all the scholars and delegates for being part of the conference. He said, “it is always a proud moment for us to hold such conferences as they provide an excellent opportunity to our faculty, students and conference delegates to create knowledge, exchange ideas, and strengthen their research skills.
