Description of the Program

The Early Childhood Program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the field of early childhood education. The program aims to prepare students to work with young children from birth to age eight in a variety of settings, including childcare centers, preschools, and public schools. The program provides students with a strong foundation in child development, effective teaching strategies, and essential skills for working with children and families.

The program is structured to provide students with a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. Students will learn about child development, learning theories, and teaching strategies, as well as gain hands-on experience through fieldwork and practicum placements. The program emphasizes the importance of creating a safe, positive, and nurturing learning environment for young children, and prepares students to work collaboratively with families and colleagues.

Courses in the Early Childhood Program cover a variety of topics including; Foundations of Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Curriculum and Instruction, Assessment and Evaluation, Family and Community Relationships, and Leadership in ECE among others. Graduates of the Early Childhood Program will be well-prepared to work as educators, program administrators, and advocates for young children and their families. The program provides a solid foundation for further education and professional development in the field of early childhood education

The mission of the Diploma in Early Childhood Education program is to prepare aspiring educators to provide quality care and education to young children in a variety of settings. The program aims to equip students with a deep understanding of child development, effective teaching strategies, and essential skills for working with children and families. Through a comprehensive curriculum, practical experience, and supportive learning environment, the program seeks to cultivate students’ passion for nurturing young children’s growth and learning. Graduates of the program will be knowledgeable, competent, and ethical professionals who can make a positive impact on the lives of young children and contribute to the field of early childhood education.

Program Structure

Early Childhood Education and development is a 1 year diploma program offered to candidates who wish to pursue early years teaching as their career. It is a 30 credit hour program with 10 compulsory courses (3 credit hours each). Courses will be offered in Fall, Spring and Summer.

Admission Requirements

The candidate must have completed A-Levels/ 12th Grade/ Intermediate/ 14 years of Education with minimum second division or equivalent from a recognized institution.
